Citizenship
GCSE Citizenship further develops ideas and concepts introduced in KS3 PPE.
It uses the OCR exam board. Citizenship is a vitally important subject for pupils as they step into the wider world as citizens, and helps pupils understand the changing world around them.
Citizenship begins with a study of human rights, the law, and legal system. Pupils will then complete an extended study of politics in the UK, including the structure of the British constitution, the role of Parliament, and how power is divided between national, devolved, and local governments.
From the end of Year 10 to the start of Year 11, pupils will complete a ‘Citizenship Project’ where they work together to identity and try and resolve an issue in their community. This is then tested as part of Paper 2 of the GCSE. Pupils finish the GCSE by studying migration and identity, as well as international organisations and politics around the world.
GCSE Citizenship helps pupils become active, engaged, and responsible citizens and helps them to develop a global perspective.
