Music plays an integral part of everyday life, and we believe music should be celebrated and remain a key part of a balanced and broad curriculum at Castle Donington College. 

The Music curriculum, at Castle Donington College, ensures that all pupils perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians. The carefully sequenced units allow pupils to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress 

We believe in a strong musical presence and developing musical culture in College. Musical learning is about thinking and acting musically. Music lessons focus on developing imagination and creativity, building up pupils’ knowledge, skills and understanding. We want pupils to embrace a wide range of musical experiences, which will contribute to their lifelong love of the subject. 

The theory underpinning the practical curriculum ensure pupils understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, and develop a musical toolkit of knowledge including an understanding of pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations. 

Pupils receive 2 lessons of Music each fortnight. They are taught by a subject specialist in mixed ability groups. Music GCSE is offered as a KS4 Option to all pupils.
